185,000 euros Finnish aid to NHRC

KATHMANDU, June 30: The Government of Nepal (GoN) and the Government of Finland on Thursday have signed an agreement on promoting human rights education in Nepal.



The agreement states that 185,000 euros will be spent within a period of 18 months to develop child rights teaching manuals for schoolteachers to reduce school dropout rate and to transform schools into corporal punishment free institutions. [break]



NHRC Chair Kedar Nath Upadhay speaking at the agreement signing function said, “The Finnish will be helpful in making schools human rights friendly institutions.” He also recalled the technical support extended by Finland government for the complicated exhumation at Shivapuri, Kathmandu and Godar, Dhanusha.



Similarly, Charge D´affaires Pirkko-Liisa Kyostil expressed respect toward the independence and autonomy of NHRC and said she is delighted to have extended the support for strengthening NHRC.



Secretary Bishal Khanal on behalf of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Charge D´afffaires Pirkko-Liisa Kyostil on behalf of the Government of Finland signed the agreement.
