During an interaction with the officials of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), Shrestha admitted that economic relations between Nepal and France, although one of the oldest, remain dormant. But at the same time, he attributed it to slackened approach of Nepal in tapping business and tourism prospects that France can offer.[break]
He also asked the private sector to be proactive in expanding business link, promoting Nepali exports and selling Nepal as a tourist destination in France. “Until and unless the private sector take initiatives, we at the embassy will not be able to contribute to boost bilateral economic ties,” said he.
Shrestha further told entrepreneurs that Nepal-France trade balance till few years ago was in favor of Nepal, but has become unfavorable of late, and urged the private sector to be innovative and proactive.
President of NCC Surendra Bir Malakar, on the other hand, requested Shrestha to intensify economic diplomacy and share trade and business related information and Nepal´s prospect with the private sector at regular intervals.
“We at the Chamber are ready to extend all possible support to boost economic relations between Nepal and France,” he said.
