Parties urge Maoists to support CA term extension

KATHMANDU, May 27: Various 12 parties that support the current Madhav Nepal-led government on Thursday asked the UCPN (Maoist) to unconditionally vote for the extension of the term of Constituent Assembly.



A meeting of the parties held at the initiative of CPN (Samyukta) at Singha Durbar Thursday evening also suggested the big three parties -- UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML -- reach a package deal within the next three weeks and take initiative for forming national consensus government. The meeting lasted for about two hours.[break]



Talking to Republica, Chandra Dev Joshi, the chairman of the CPN (Samyukta), said the suggestion was made after holding detailed discussion about the current political situation. “We have asked the Maoists to support the extension of the term of the Constituent Assembly,” he said.



The meeting was attended by leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic), CPN-ML, Rastriya Janashakti Party and Nepal Pariwar Dal among others.
