KATHMANDU, May 16: The government has brought 18,000 empty medical oxygen cylinders from China to Nepal via the Tatopani border point. According to Ganesh Pandey, press advisor to deputy prime minister and coordinator of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee (CCMC), Ishwor Pokhrel, the cylinders have arrived at the Tatopani border. He also stated that the cylinders will be transported to Kathmandu after they are handed over to Nepal by the Chinese government.
The Nepal government has decided to bring 20,000 empty medical oxygen cylinders as a grant from the Chinese government after the shortage of medical oxygen in the country. Earlier, 400 cylinders of medical oxygen were brought to Nepal in a widebody aircraft of Nepal Airlines Corporation. Preparations are currently underway to bring the remaining 1,600 cylinders of medical oxygen in an aircraft as well.

Similarly, a widebody aircraft that left for China on Saturday is set to arrive with 550 cylinders of medical oxygen today. Also, 560 empty cylinders arrived in Nepal from Oman with the support of Non-Resident Nepali Association on Saturday. Due to the scarcity of medical oxygen, the government has started to import oxygen cylinders from various countries for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the country.
