Unity's dairy closed in Chitwan

KATHMANDU, May 20: Amid unfolding facts about dubious operations of Unity Life International, local administrations have closed Unity offices in different districts including a dairy in Chitwan.



Manager of Unity Dairy operating in Jaimangala, Anjan Duwadi, said the dairy was closed after irate clients started to vandalize it demanding their money back. The dairy had been producing different dairy products purchasing around 700 liters of milk from farmers every day. [break]



Chitwan CDO Basanta Raj Gautam said over two dozen members had registered their complaints against Unity till Wednesday. Unity has distributed membership to over 40,000 in Chitwan.



Police said Unity officials including Chitwan branch chief Tej Prasad Ghimire and district coordinator Bhanu Bhakta Kandel are out of contact.



Though Unity had claimed that it had also invested in a departmental store, no evidence has been found about it.



In Mahendranagar, Unity´s local officials have left for Kathmandu closing their office. There are over 150 members of Unity in Kanchanpur.



Police raided Unity´s branch in Baglung and local administration froze properties of Mahendra KC, who is district agent of Unity.



In Itahari, Unity members have submitted a memorandum to CDO to freeze property of Unity including a land where Unity had planned to construct a hospital.



Wage earners suffer



In Doti, Unity has been found to have duped even daily wage earners. Some Unity members came forward to share their stories.



Tek Bahadur Bohara, a laborer of BP Nagar, lost Rs 15,000 that he paid for Unity´s membership.



“I paid the amount that I earned in one year as Unity made false promises to make me millionaire. I am spending sleepless nights after my dreams shattered,” he said.



Deependra Kalel of Bachaina-6 of Doti also had similar story to tell. “I sold off my goats to get Unity membership in the hope of becoming wealthy overnight. But now I am ruined,” he said. Unity had made over 1000 members in Doti where it hasn´t opened any contact office.
