SIRAHA, May 16: Despite repeated commitment from the Unified CPN (Maoist) to return properties seized during the conflict, a couple here has become the victim of Maoist atrocities as the Maoists have recently seized its property. [break]

Maoist cadres had confiscated the property of Ramchanu Pal of Dhangadhi VDC-2 in the district and ‘evicted’ the Pal couple from their home nearly two months ago.

The victims have been taking refuge at Unique Academy, Lahan, along with their children. “After we were forced to leave our own home, we were living in a rented room at Gol Bazaar. Coming under pressure again from the Maoist cadres, we had to leave Gol Bazaar and shifted to this place,” said Asha Devi Pal, the wife of Ramchanu.

“They seized the land (9 kattha and 15 dhur) that we tilled for 20 years and also razed the house,” she said.

The victims have appealed to political parties, human rights activists and civil society to help them get their property back.
