16-day campaign against GBV begins

KATHMANDU, Nov 25: The National Women Commission (NWC) including various organizations crusading for women rights took out a joint public awareness creating rally on Friday morning, marking the beginning of 16-daylong campaign against gender-based violence.



The participants of the rally that began from the NWC premises in Bhadrakali chanted slogans such as ‘Domestic Peace is the Foundation for Global Peace’ and ‘Put GBV to an End by Combating Suppression’ holding placards reading themes entitled visioning new Nepal, creating human trafficking free society, equal participation of one and all, action against trafficking and the guarantee of 33 per cent participation of women in every sector of the status apparatus, among others. The rally that went around Bhadrakali and New Road converged into the corner meet in Basantapur



Around 500 participants including office-bearers and employees of the government and non-government offices were present in the rally.



Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Dan Bahadur Chaudhary said his Ministry is working as per its commitment to create a prosperous and equitable society by ending all types of violence.



Addressing the corner meet, NWC Chairperson Chandtara Kumari underscored the need to put efforts from all sides to make GBV a history.
