KATHMANDU, Jan 30: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has provided sufficient parking options for vehicles going to the New Road area. The decision comes after the KMC banned the roadside parking in the New Road area from January 23.

According to KMC Police Chief Rajunath Pandey, parking space for 2,200 two-wheelers and 300 four-wheelers has been provided free of charge as an alternative to New Road parking. This number is more than the number of vehicles that normally parked on the roadside in New Road.

Currently, 1,500 two-wheelers can be parked in the space provided in the Dharahara parking building.

“Along with this, parking space for 700 two-wheelers and 300 four-wheelers has been provided at Kathmandu Tower (former bus park). This is a free parking service,” said Pandey.

According to the claim of the metropolis, parking facilities are also available in many commercial buildings built with the purpose of parking on New Road.

Tamrakar Complex, RB Complex, Ranjana Complex, Pashupati Plaza, Bishal Bazaar and other buildings have parking facilities on the underground floor.

900 two-wheelers and four-wheelers utilized parking service in Dharahara on Monday

According to Pandey, about 900 drivers have taken free parking service at the parking building of Dharahara on Monday.

According to Prashant Kharel, a road safety expert of the KMC, 1,302 one-wheelers and 30 four-wheelers could be parked on the black-topped road of New Road.

The blacktopped road connecting Juddha Shalik and Indra Chowk could accommodate parking for 320 two-wheelers and five four-wheelers. In Pyukha, the capacity was for 150 two-wheelers and six four-wheelers, while in Khichapokhari, it was 150 two-wheelers and 15 four-wheelers. Additionally, the area in Bir Hospital Mahabuddha had parking space for 150 two-wheelers.

The metropolis has already prohibited parking in places like Bagbazar, Putalisadak, Durbarmarg, Jonche before New Road.
