Earlier, over 20,000 families of freed Haliyas were expected to be living in midwestern and farwestern regions.

"We have recently submitted our report to the government," Chakra BK, member of the Haliya Data Collection Team, told Republica. "With the exact data available, rehabilitation of the families of freed Haliyas will be easier." Earlier, the government had not announced the rehabilitation package of freed Haliya families, citing lack of exact data.

Baitadi and Bajhang districts have the highest number of Haliyas. A maximum 2,883 Haliya families reside in Baitadi followed by 2,848 in Bajhang. "We have found Haliya families in 12 districts," BK told Republica.
