KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Senior Cardiologist, Dr. Om Murti Anil, has recently accomplished an exceptional feat by securing two world records, marking a significant milestone in the realm of cardiovascular health awareness. His dedication to the cause has not only set a historic precedent but has also earned him a distinguished place in the 'Guinness World Records' for achieving the "Most viewers for a cardiovascular health awareness live stream on Facebook."

The groundbreaking accomplishment unfolded on World Heart Day in September, where Dr. Anil, fueled by his commitment to promoting heart disease awareness, conducted a half-hour-long live presentation. The event drew an astonishing 11,212 viewers at its peak, with an additional 9,000 shares, ultimately accumulating an impressive 150,000 views on Facebook. This achievement not only secured Dr. Anil's position as the inaugural cardiologist in the Guinness World Records for heart disease awareness but also highlighted his exceptional ability to connect with a vast audience.

The event was organized by the National Cardiac Centre, Basundhara, with the aim of raising cardiovascular health awareness. It provided technical and logistics support for the successful completion of the event.

Dr. Anil emphasized that this world record was not the result of a one-day effort but rather the culmination of 12 years of relentless awareness campaigns. His concern was not merely about the number of viewers but also about adhering to the stringent guidelines and criteria set by the Guinness World Records, which required meticulous attention for record approval. Adhering to these guidelines, Dr. Anil delivered a live presentation within the guidelines set by GWR on the diagnosis of hypertension, covering topics such as understanding blood pressure, home BP monitoring techniques, and providing valuable insights into patient perspectives.

In March 2023, Dr. Anil added another feather to his cap by securing a world record for the "Longest running radio Interview as a Guest Speaker on Heart Disease Prevention" on Image FM. This insightful conversation, conducted by Shailaja Singh, further solidified Dr. Anil's position as the first doctor in the world to clinch two world records in heart health within the same year.

Expressing his joy during a media conference on Friday, Dr. Anil shared that after years of dedication and perseverance, these records bring a unique sense of pride not only to himself but also to the entire nation of Nepal. "While my previous achievements were personal, this record is a matter of happiness for both me and the country," he remarked.

Dr. Anil's journey in health awareness began in 2011, actively engaging in presentations across various media platforms. Recognizing the prevalence of heart attacks during treatment, he conducted numerous programs over 12 years, consistently utilizing social media to increase awareness about heart health. His impactful videos and posts, addressing various chronic diseases, garnered a massive following of 1.25 million on social media.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Anil experienced a surge in popularity as he took on a pivotal role in tackling public health issues. Through his Facebook page and various messaging platforms, he generously offered guidance and responded to inquiries from a substantial number of individuals, both within Nepal and abroad, all without any associated costs. Notably, he played a crucial role in dispelling misinformation surrounding COVID-19 during a time when conspiracy theories were at their peak.

Dr. Anil's commitment to cardiovascular health awareness dates back over a decade, triggered by preventable deaths of heart patients due to a lack of common knowledge about heart disease. In 2013, he published 'I am also a doctor' (Ma Pani Doctor in Nepali), distributing more than 5,000 copies free of cost to health workers to raise awareness.

During his tenure at the Institute of Medicine from 2011 to 2015, Dr. Anil played a pivotal role in establishing and managing the DM cardiology program and cath lab services at the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center. In 2014, he organized the largest-ever free heart camp in Nepal, conducting research on the prevalence of risk factors for heart disease among healthy urban adults. This research earned him the Best Research Paper of the Year award from the Nepal Health Research Council in 2018.

Dr. Anil's academic achievements include earning his M.D. degree from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, with a Gold Medal. In 2011, he completed DM Cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), earning recognition from one of Asia's premier health teaching institutions. Additionally, Dr. Anil holds Fellowships from the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention (FSCAI).In addition to his academic and medical accomplishments, Dr. Anil's recently published book, 'Jibanta Sambandha,' is gaining popularity among the public
