KATHMANDU, Sept 24: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB)’s Mint Division has introduced silver medallion coins featuring the image of a 'cow'. NRB governor Maha Prasad Adhikari released the coins amidst a program at the division office in Babarmahal on Sunday.
The medallion coins are available in two different weights: 10 grams and 25 grams. The value of the 10-gm coin is Rs 1,600 while the 25-gram coin is valued at Rs 4,000 per coin.
According to the division, the medallion coins were minted from the bank's silver stock with a purity of 999. These coins do not feature a specified face value and such coin is called the medallion. The NRB Board of Directors on June 2 decided to mint the coins and bring them into circulation.
