Historic Bhandcha Fest commences

BUTWAL, Jan 30: The 107th recorded edition of Bhandcha Festival has started at Bhandcha village of Rampur in Rupandehi district. 

The festival also known as Maghe Aaunsi Mela is being celebrated for more than a century bringing into relief the Tharu community's cultural dance performances and processions. 

The festival to run for three days and three nights will also organize sport competitions. The festival starts in the night and ends during the nighttime. Organizing Committee Chairman, Tika Ram Chaudhary, said thousands of people are expected to visit the Mela. 

During the fest, local cultural dances including Jhamuda Naach, Jharra Naach, Mayur Naach and Magar community's Kauda Naach and Sorathi Naach will be performed. 

Legend has it that the festival was started by a Hindu monk during the pre-historic era, but only given continuity since 1966 BS in a systematic manner, according to Bhandcha Village Development Society. RSS
