KATHMANDU, Dec 14: Police have arrested the sanitation supervisor of the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in the course of investigations into the 14 kg gold smuggling case. On the night of 7th December, Chandra Ghale of Gorkha, who landed in Kathmandu from Dubai, was arrested with 14 kg of gold.
The investigation revealed that Ghale, who was arrested while getting off the plane, had planned to put the gold in the toilet of the airport before going to the immigration walk-through gate and throw it out as waste.

The government formed a committee headed by Chief Customs Officer Mani Ram Paudel to investigate the gold smuggling case. TIA Customs Office sources said that the committee arrested Sushila Pandey, the airport's sanitation supervisor, from Bhaktapur on Wednesday night for investigation.
The investigation committee has already arrested three TIA employees for investigations into this case.
