JUMLA, Nov 27: Fourteen large and small idols, including the image of the four-handed deity Dattatreya, have been stolen from the Chandannath Baba temple here last night.
Not only the 14 idols, other valuables might have also been burgled from the temple, said the Chief District Officer, Rudra Prasad Pandit. According to him, investigation is underway in this connection.
The head of the Dattatreya idol had the crest made of gold while the rest is made of silver, according to Ramananda Acahrya, an expert on local culture and religion. The idol weighs 12 dharnis.
Among other idols stolen are the 18-handed goddess statute made of gold and silver, a Buddha statue made of copper and bronze and other statuettes of various gods and goddesses.
Police have now cordoned off the temple premises while investigation is carried out, the District Police Office, Jumla stated. RSS
