During the function organized on January 22, Nepali ambassador to Denmark Vijaya Kant Lal Karna distributed certificates to 14 Finnish mountaineers who have scaled Mount Everest. Envoy Karna also appointed them as Nepal Tourism Year 2011 Honorary Goodwill Ambassadors. [break]
The appointment of goodwill ambassadors was made as per the announcement made by Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sharat Singh Bhandari, who heads the main organizing committee of Nepal Tourism Year 2011, to appoint all Everest summiteers as goodwill ambassadors for Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
According to a press release issued by Nepali Embassy in Denmark, high ranking Finnish government officials, summiteers, frequent visitors to Nepal, academicians, travel tour operators, travel writers, hoteliers and Nepali and Finnish nationals from various walks of life attended the function.
Addressing the function Ambassador Karna said that wider appeal of Honorary Goodwill Ambassadors will greatly assist in projecting Nepal as a prime tourist destination. He also appealed to all friends and well wishers of Nepal to help make Nepal Tourism Year 2011 a success. Nepal aims to bring in 1 million tourists during 2011.
Speaking on the occasion, Reijo Harkonen, Honorary Public Relations Representatives of Nepal Tourism Board in Finland, and Matti Penttila, President of Nepal Finland Friendship Association, highlighted Nepal-Finland Friendship and pledged further efforts to promote Nepali tourism in Finland.
The Embassy of Nepal also participated in the Matka 2011 Nordic Travel Fair, the biggest event of its kind in Nordic region, held in Helsinki, Finland on January 20-23.
