KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Nepali Congress (NC) leader and Member of Parliament from Kathmandu-5, Pradeep Paudel has demanded that the water from the Melamchi River be provided to areas outside the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) as well.
On Tuesday, Paudel submitted a letter to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and drew his attention to Melamchi water supply, requesting the PM for the distribution of Melamchi water to areas outside the KMC as well. Paudel mentioned that the province has invested more than Rs 65 billion in the Melamchi water supply project so far and said that it is necessary for the province to put special emphasis on the management of the main source of water supply to the people of Kathmandu. Paudel said that a separate management body is needed for the management of the water from Melamchi. He requested Prime Minister Deuba to maintain the Melamchi Development Committee and make arrangements to bring water from Melamchi during the rainy season.
Paudel said that work should be expedited so that Melamchi water can be used in Kathmandu within the next 12 months.
