SURKHET, March 12: Nepal Electricity Authority Director Kulman Ghising said that a 132KV transmission line will be connected to Karnali within a year. He also said that the delay in the project was caused due to Bardiya National Park and the forest area.

Stating that Karnali has been facing power shortage and low voltage, Ghising said that preparations have already been made to bring 33-33KV transmission from Kailali and Salyan. In a meeting with Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi of Karnali, Ghising said that a tender has been awarded for the expansion of the 33KV transmission line from Kailali and that another tender will be issued for the same from Salyan. “Work on a 400KV transmission line to Chinchu of Surkhet and a 132KV transmission line to Chupra of Dailekh is also underway,” Ghising said.

On the occasion, Ghising said that power transmission lines would be extended to all the districts of Karnali within two years. He also said that the provincial government should take initiative for the construction of the 10,800 MW Karnali Chisapani Power Project.

“Karnali has the potential to generate thousands of megawatts of electricity. It is possible to generate 10,800 MW of electricity from Chisapani of Karnali. If the work starts, Karnali can benefit from tourism along with electricity,” Ghising said.
