KATHMANDU, August 9: Some 14 vehicles carrying garbage from Kathmandu have been vandalized. Last night, an unknown group vandalized 14 vehicles at a place called Aaletar along the Bancharedanda road section.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Purna Chandra Bhatta said that 14 garbage trucks, two dozers and one excavator were vandalized.
He said, “Since yesterday morning, the locals did not allow garbage dumping at Bancharedanda. Garbage was thrown under police protection. In the evening, the vehicles were vandalized because the policemen were not there. The vandals have not been identified yet. We have written to the security agencies to search for them.”
For the past some months, the residents of Sisdol have been protesting against the disposal of the Kathmandu Valley’s waste there, saying that their demands have not been met.
