Mukunda Subedi, principal of Jagannath Primary School, Hilapokhari of Takam-4, Kale Damai of Okharbot VDC, Chiuribot, bus-helper Rupesh Nepali of Pulachour, Purna Bahadur Chhantyal and Surya Man Chhantyal of Barangja, Tul Bahadur Pun -- a teacher at Dhan Pandey Secondary School -- of Muna, Dipesh Pun of Muna, Tara Khatri and his six-month son of Singa, Tatopani, Tika Rasaili and his two-year son Prabhat of Room, and Ashok Bhandari and Tara KC of Ranabang were killed in the accident, according to police inspector Mahendra BK. Four of the injured receiving treatment at District Hospital, Myagdi while four others seriously injured have been taken to Pokhara for further treatment. Rik Bahadur Khatri of Room-6, Deepak Poudel of Singa-3, and Devi Prasad Sharma and Laxman Lamichhane of Babiyachour have been referred to Manipal Medical College, according to the police.
“The accident occurred due to narrow and muddy road,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dinesh Acharya.
Police have arrested the driver of the mini bus (Ga 1 Cha 2704) Tek Bahadur Sunar for investigation. The bus carrying 23 passengers was heading for Darbang from Babiyachour.
The accident site is located around 21 kilometers west of district headquarters Beni. Locals and police personnel from Area Police Office Darbang and District Police Office carried out the rescue work.
Secretary of Myagdi Jeep and Bus Entrepreneurs´ Association Suman Shrestha blamed poor road conditions for the accident. “We have repeatedly urged the District Development Committee to repair the road but to no avail. Thirteen people lost their lives due to bad condition of the road,” Shrestha said.
