KATHMANDU, April 17: The price of lemon has increased more than double in one month in the Nepali market. According to the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market Development Board, the price of lemon, which was being sold at Rs 190 per kg in mid-March, has reached Rs 400 per kg today. The price of a piece of lemon has reached Rs 20 in the market.

At present, the price of lemon in the Kalimati market is at least Rs 350 to Rs 400 per kg, according to the Market Development Board. The main reason for the price hike of lemon is the weather and the price hike in India, the major source of lemons in Nepal.

In the eight months of the current fiscal year, Nepal has spent Rs 602.36 million for the import of 7.857 million kg of lemons. Last year, Nepal imported lemons worth Rs 919.6 million.
