Tripartite meeting decides to table amendment bill Sunday

KATHMANDU, Jan 5: Top leaders of Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have agreed to table the constitution amendment bill at the parliament meeting scheduled for Sunday.

A tripartite meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Thursday decided to table the bill concluding that the Supreme Court’s ruling has cleared path to take the bill forward into the House.

During the meeting, PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal had asked the Madhesi leaders not to cast any doubts on tabling of the bill. He added that all should take initiations to get the bill endorsed through parliament by a two-third majority.

 Emerging from the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Bimalendra Nidhi said, “An agreement has been reached to table the bill at the House meeting slated for Sunday. Following the apex court’s ruling, we believe UML will allow tabling of the bill.”

Chairman of Sadhbhawna Party, Rajendra Mahato said that the UDMF will file a separate amendment proposal on the constitution amendment bill.
