KATHMANDU, March 1: The ruling CPN (Unified Socialist) has stated that it is in favor of the US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement as the concerns raised over the compact have been addressed through the Interpretative Declaration by parliament.

Organizing a press conference on Tuesday, CPN (Unified Socialist) said that the US had allayed the concerns about the MCC and the interpretative declaration has clarified the misconceptions about it.

Speaking at the conference, Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal said that after the US made it clear that MCC was not any part of the Indo-Pacific Strategy, the MCC agreement was ratified. He also accused the main opposition party CPN-UML of pushing the MCC agreement through parliament but also creating baseless controversies about it.

Chairperson Nepal claimed that the agreement was passed by more than two-thirds of the votes as there was no formal opposition to the agreement even from the CPN-UML. He said that after the ratification of the agreement, the United States and even neighboring country China have also responded positively.

Similarly, Chairperson Nepal also said that the then US President Donald Trump had tried to make Nepal conduct anti-China activities by trapping the then Prime Minister of Nepal KP Oli. He claimed that Nepal was removed from the Indo-Pacific Strategy as soon as the president of the United States was changed.

Likewise, responding to media queries, Chairman Nepal made it clear that he was not in favor of the resignation of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota. He said that the unified socialists would stand firmly by the side of the Speaker as he has protected the dignity of parliament and the rights of the parliamentarians.

He said that Nepal should pay special attention to international treaties and agreements in the coming days. He also said that it would not be a mistake for the leaders of the government and the ministries to be patriotic, knowledgeable about the subject matter and to deploy experienced people in such work.
