119 families affected by monsoon-triggered natural disasters in Panchthar

PANCHTHAR, June 24: A total of 119 families in four local levels have been affected due to floods and landslides in Panchthar. 


According to the data collected by the security agencies, 574 members of 199 families of the district were affected by the natural disaster. Of them, 59 members of 14 households have been completely displaced.

Similarly, 86 households in the district are at high risk of being displaced. Likewise, 19 houses have been partially damaged due to floods and landslides, Chief District Officer Mekha Bahadur Mangrati said. Currently, a total of 574 citizens have been displaced from their homes in the district. 


The floods swept away six concrete bridges, one bailey bridge and eight suspension bridges. Due to the damage to the bridge, the Phidim-Taplejung section of Mechi highway, Majhitar-Taplejung section of Tamor corridor, Oyam-Changthapu section of Mid-hill highway have been blocked. 


Traffic on dozens of rural roads has also been affected, CDO Mangrati. So far, one school, three sheds, and 46 cattle sheds have been swept away by the flood. The District Natural Disaster Committee has delivered relief materials to all the displaced families. The details of the damage to the crops have not been collected. Three people have died while another three have gone missing in the flood and landslides in the district.
