The other four jury members were JC and Project Chairman of Miss Teen Nepal 2009 Chandra Rabi Shrestha, official choreographer and trainer Prabha Amatya, two of the past presidents of JCI Kathmandu Nepal – Sen. Sushil Babu Shrestha, and Sen. Suman Kumar Shrestha.
There was a delay in holding the planned audition due to Nepal bandas. The preliminary competition round and the final event also had to be rescheduled owing to possible bandas this month.
The ongoing training will focus on the overall personality development of the contestants. They will also be groomed and mentored for the final event. The conduct and discipline regime of the contestants throughout the training will be under the supervision of the JCI members.
Rakshya Sherchan, 16, one of the short-listed participants, told Republica that she chose to be a part of Miss Teen Nepal as she believes it will help in her future aspirations.
“I’m not here to learn catwalks but I seriously see this as a platform where my potential will be recognized.”
Her father, Dinesh Kumar Sherchan, who was convinced by his wife to let their daughter join the competition, opines, “It was primarily a wish of my daughter’s. But once I understood that it’ll actually help her to face the society with confidence, I decided to support her decision. Besides, I trust the organizers Kathmandu Jaycees with the training they provide for leadership development.”
JCI Kathmandu Nepal, which operates under strict norms, intends the competition to be more of a cultural talent show for the empowerment of female youths in the country rather than a beauty pageant. The official choreographer and trainer for Miss Teen Nepal 2009, Prabha Amatya, states that despite there being so many pageants, Miss Teen Nepal is distinguished as it has a reputable history of seven years.
From the brief introduction she has had with the contestants during the interview round, she commented on their passion and determination for the teen pageant.
“Miss Teen Nepal has been setting greater standards each time it’s held, and I’m sure the girls will keep up with the trend and raise the bar even higher,” she concludes.
