Nepal’s export earnings surged more than double in the first month of the current FY

KATHMANDU, September 7: Nepal exported goods worth Rs 20.76 billion in the first month of the current fiscal year, which is more than double the amount that the country earned during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The country’s export stood at Rs 9.62 billion during mid-July and mid-August in 2019/20. The records with the Trade and Export Promotion Center show that Nepal’s exports jumped 115.9 percent during the review period on the back of the whooping rise in earning from export of edible oils in particular.

With an earning of Rs 8.98 billion, soybean oil stood at the topmost export item. The export of the product surged multifold from Rs 2.27 billion during the review period.  

The export of sunflower oil also jumped from Rs 15.74 million to Rs 791.92 million. The export earnings from palm oil stood at Rs 2.15 billion during the review period. Exports of polyester yarns, woolen carpet, jute products, felt products and Nepalese paper products, among others, also escalated during the period.
