11 year old dies a month after his failed porcupine hunt

KHOTANG, Sept 16: A eleven year old boy who was critically injured to suffocation while trying to hunt a porcupine in a cave a month ago has died.



Nawal Tamang of Khotehang rural municipality had entered a cave at Diukhola to hunt the spiked animal. However, he lost consciousness. He was rescued from the cave and airlifted to TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj. He was discharged from the hospital on Thursday after he showed no signs of improvements. "He passed away on Thursday night," Suresh Puri, the deceased’s relative.

The locals informed the police after mother and her children who left for hunting a porcupine didn’t return home till late night. Police and locals moved towards the Diukhola cave following the fire's gaze.


Nawal had entered the cave with his mother, Sarita and younger sister Pujana. All of them were rescued after locals heard screams from inside the cave. The mother had died on the spot. Eight year Pujana's health condition is stable.
