11 killed in road mishap within 24 hrs; Dashain-induced traffic congestion blamed

KATHMANDU, Oct 7: As many as 11 people were killed in road accidents in the last 24 hours. With the growing road congestion due to the passengers heading back home for Dashain festival, the number of accidents has increased, police told Republica Online.

With the growing road congestion due to the passengers heading back home for Dashain festival, the number of accidents has increased, police told Republica Online. 


A TATA Sumo (Ba 6 cha 4815) has hit a motorcycle (Lu 26 pa 6921) along the Parasi - Bhumahi road section in Ramgram municipality of Nawalparasi district.


Motorcyclist Bijay Thapa, 27, and pillion rider Gan Bahadur Thapa, who is also a police constable, have died in the accident. The police have taken the Tata Sumo and the driver under control.


Similarly, at Chandi Bhanjyang along the Mugling-Narayangadh road section a truck (Na 4 kha 8552) went out of control on Friday and skidded off the road and fell 80 meters down to the Trishuli River.

In the accident, the driver, 25-year-old Bikash Gurung and 26-year-old assistant driver Charles Gurung have sustained serious injuries. 


Similarly, 43-year-old Ratna Bahadur Rai lost his life when his bike (Ba 32 Pa 2436) was struck by a bus (Na 5 Kha 2061) at Kalanki.


Rai from Makwanpur was currently staying at Naikap. Likewise, 26-year- old Dharmendra Shah was badly injured in the accident.


A pedestrian was killed in a road accident when a bike (Ga 11 Pa 147 hit him at Prithivi Highway in Dulegaida Bazaar, Gandaki Municipality-3 on Thursday. The deceased is 80-year-old, Debendra Malla from Male Bazaar.


Khim Bahadur Dharti, 37, from Karaghati-3 was killed in a bike accident in Kachanapur, Banke while a bus, Na. 5 Kha 5235 hit his bike, on Thursday.


Likewise, a tractor, Sa1 Ta 4067, skidded off the road at Khabu-2 in Udayapur, killing 52-year-old Tej Bahadur Gajmer from Triyuga Municipality.


Bolero, with the registration number Ba 5 Cha 6248, fell down some 40 meters from a bumpy road at Dhading Tasarpu-8, Kamrang, killing Nisha Thapa,38, on Thursday.


An unregistered vehicle hit 10-year-old Prakash Singh Thakuri of Bardia Bashgadhi Municipality-4, Lakhana Chowk on Thursday.


Thakuri died on the spot immediately.
