KATHMANDU, Nov 11: A total of 11 candidates have applied for the post of Chairperson of the Securities Board of Nepal (Sebon). The post has remained vacant for over a month after the incumbent Chairperson Bhishma Raj Dhungana was sacked over controversy surrounding the share purchase of Sarbottam Cement.
The government sacked Dhungana on October 6 after he was accused of involvement in insider trading of shares of various companies despite assuming the top post of the regulatory body. As a result, the initial public offerings worth more than Rs 1.84 billion has been put on hold till date.

Sebon’s Executive Director Niraj Giri and Deputy Executive Director Nabaraj Adhikari, former chairman of the Insurance Board Chiranjibi Chapagain and Deputy-director of Cooperative Development Board Anil Poudel have applied for the post of Sebon’s chairperson.
Former executive director of Nepal Rastra Bank Gopal Bhatta, former administrator of Employees Provident Fund Krishna Prasad Acharya and former general manager of Nepal Stock Exchange Sitaram Thapaliya are also among those vying for the top post of Sebon.
Similarly, the analysts of stock exchange Keshab Shrestha, Jeevan Amgain, Ramesh Hamal and Ambika Sharma Lamichhane have also submitted applications for the position, according to sources at the Sebon.
