KATHMANDU, Nov 12: After denial to call the party's Secretariat meeting, for weeks, Prime Minister K P Oli, who is also the party's chairman, has agreed to call the Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) for Friday afternoon.

NCP General Secretary Bishnu Paudel has informed all Secretariat members that the meeting will take place in Baluwatar at 4 pm on Friday. The decision was made at the consultation of both Oli and Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, according to NCP's Deputy Chief of Publicity Department Bishnu Rijal.

Earlier, Prime Minister Oli had denied call the party's Secretariat meeting until the differences seen within the party were resolved at the level of two chairmen. However, Dahal, who is backed by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and three other Secretariat members, had insisted on calling the meeting at the earliest and resolve the differences seen within the party.

Prime Minister Oli is in minority in all party's committees including the Secretariat, Standing Committee, and Central Committee after senior leader Nepal and the party's Vice Chairman Bam Dev Gautam chose to side with Executive Chairman Dahal. The decision to call the Secretariat meeting comes a day after Supreme Court paved way for Gautam, who is miffed with Oli for not inducting him in the cabinet, for becoming the minister.

Party insiders believe that Oli may have agreed to hold the meeting after he realized that he could secure the support of Vice-Chairman Gautam, whose support is vital for him to secure a majority in the party's Secretariat body.
