KATHMANDU, Oct 24: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has decided not to offer tika to the general public on Bijaya Dashami, the tenth day of Dashain, this year.
The president made this decision in order to avoid large gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Bhandari would also not visit shrines on Maha Astami, the eighth day of the festival and on the Kojagrat Purnima as well, according to a press statement issued by the President’s Office.
The Head of State used to visit various Hindu shrines in the Kathmandu Valley to pay homage to Goddess Durga Bhawani on Maha Astami, and on the Kojagrat Purnima.
There was a tradition of offering tika and jamara to the public by the Head of State during the festival.
