KAVRE, Nov 3: A joint team of Nepal Police and Traffic Police on Thursday seized 10 quintal of sugar from Kavrebhanjyang of Dhulikhel Municipality-9. Police recovered the sugar supplied by hiding in 33 sacks during a security check.
The security bodies have suspected the smuggling of sugar from different districts of the eastern Tarai via BP Highway in the recent days as the Kathmandu Valley has witnessed the shortage of sugar during this festive season.

Information officer at the Kavre District Police Office Raj Kumar Shrestha confirmed that the sugar is being imported illegally via the BP Highway.
In order to control the illegal supply of sugar, the police has intensified security checks along the highway.
Earlier on October 19, the Area Police Office, Banepa, had seized 92 sacks of sugar that was brought by evading taxes. The sugar was supplied by covering from the sacks filled with paddy.
