1,267 vehicles fined under operation sweep campaign

KATHMANDU, Jan 22: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has punished altogether 1,267 vehicles owners during the last seven days under the ´operation sweep´ campaign. The vehicles were punished for encroaching no parking zones and sidewalks in various parts of the Valley.



Due to such encroachment, movement on the roads and sidewalks have been hindered and this has caused numerous accidents, so the MTPD in collaboration with Nepal Police launched the campaign on January 16.[break]



According to MTPD spokesman DSP Pawan Giri, police teams were deployed along the road sections including Aanamnagar-Charkhal, Teaching Hospital-Bansbari, Jawlakhel-Hariharbhawan, Bouddha-Jorpati, Kamal Pokhari-Gyanashwar and Koteshwar-and Kalimati on Tuesday. The penalized vehicle-owners will face legal action under the Vehicle and Transportation Management Act 1993, informed DSP Giri.



Of the 1,267 punished vehicles, 493 vehicles were booked for parking on the sidewalks while 316 two-wheelers were fined for wrong parking. Similarly, 93 vehicles were punished for violating traffic rules and regulations.
