KATHMANDU, Nov 19: One thousand and two hundred climbers of 164 groups have acquired permission to climb mountains in this autumn season.
The climbers have obtained permission from the Department of Tourism to climb 53 mountains including Mt Everest, Makalu, Manaslu, Ama Dablam and Annapurna.
Most of the climbers, who have obtained permission, have started their journey towards the destination. Although 10 climbers of two groups had taken permission to climb Mt Everest in this season, they became unsuccessful, according to the department.
The department has not received the factual details about the number of climbers reaching their destinations so far, said the Department.
Director of the Department, Mira Acharya said that there is enthusiastic participation of mountaineers climbing different mountains in this autumn season. Acharya further said that the number of climbers could be increased as the autumn season lasts till November. Mountaineers of 59 countries have acquired permission to climb different mountains in this season.
According to the Mountaineering Section of the Department, the highest 301 climbers have obtained permission to climb Ama Dablam mountain and 264 to climb Mt Manaslu in this autumn season. The Department has so far collected Rs 63.17 million revenue from mountain climbing in this season.
