According to a study report, more than 300 people lose their lives due to floods and landslides annually and more than Rs. 1.2 billion worth property is destroyed in the disasters. [break]
The study by an NGO, Mercy Corps Nepal, states that if we invest one Euro for pre-informatory system, property worth more than 3.5 Euro can be saved from the natural calamity.
According to the report, 26,656 people have lost their lives due to natural disasters for the past 37 years.
Likewise, 4.7 million people are directly affected, 841,000 hectares of land has been eroded and 236,000 livestock were killed in the calamities.
Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Chitwan, Sarlahi, and Sunsari districts are at a higher risk of natural disasters, says the report.
