“Though I don't have arable land, I looked for ways to get involved in agriculture,” Gyawali said while sharing her experience and knowledge at the 12th annual general meeting of Federation of Women Entrepreneurs in Chitwan. “But I figured out that there are plenty of opportunities for women in agricultural sector. The only challenge is learning how to make best use of them,” she said while elaborating the process through which she prepares the manure without affecting environment of the house.
Nila Thakur of Saptari, who is one of the founders of the Global Mango and Fruits, a mango pickle company, said that the Gyawali's manure making technique would be very useful for her.
“I had no idea that we could use household waste can be used to make fertilizers,” she said, adding that they would now try to work off-season too.
Sumitra Chaudhary an entrepreneur from Sunsari said “I earn as much as my husband and do not have to depend on anything. However, this is the first time I learned that we can have sustainable income through farming too,” she said. “I will visit the District Agricultural Development Office in the district and learn more about benefiting from opportunities in agricultural sector,” she added.
On the occasion, Maha Laxmi Shrestha, a member of the federation trained participants on improving the quality of agriculture. Likewise, Kamala Neupane, planning officer of at DADO Chitwan, urged the participants to take advantage of easy loans, grants and programs made available by the government.
