Women cricketers upbeat ahead of T20 Asia Cup

KATHMANDU, Oct 21: The Coach and the captain of Nepali national women´s cricket team claimed that they have a balanced side as the team is all set to leave Kathmandu on Sunday to participate in the ACC Women´s T20 Asia Cup to be held in Guangzhou, China.



"We have a balanced side and our approach would be to win every match we play," said Coach Shyamson Jung Thapa. "It´s a big tournament and even if we failed to produce winning result, we´ll put up a good fight with every opponent," he added.[break]



Thapa said that the Nepali team has been a strong bowling side from the early days and added that he focused on fielding and batting during the training sessions. "We have some good all-rounders and it is a T20 tournament. I hope we can bring good results," said Thapa.



Meanwhile, Captain Rubina Chhetri claimed that her side would put up good show in China. "We players are ready to put up cent percent effort on the ground. I´m less worried about the result, but I´m sure that we will play positive and good cricket," said Chhetri.



"We are a good side in terms of bowling and fielding and we have put up extra effort to improve our batting this time," she added.



"We have some experienced players, including two former captains and we have young players who are highly motivated after a title victory in the ACC U-19 Women´s Championship earlier this year," said Chhetri. The Nepali team includes two former captains Nerry Thapa and Nira Rajopadhyaya.



As the team is flying to Guangzhou on Sunday, Chhetri wished “happy Dashain” to all Nepali cricket fans on behalf of her team and said that her team wants to give Dashain gifts to the cricket fans by playing good cricket in China.



The ACC Women´s T20 Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Guangzhou, China from October 22 to November 1. Nepal is slated on group B of the tournament along with Bangladesh, China and Sri Lanka. Hong Kong, India, Pakistan and Thailand are placed in group A.



Nepal is to take on Sri Lanka in its first match on October 25. Nepal will face Bangladesh on October 26 and China on October 29.
