KATHMANDU, March 15: Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested an absconding woman who was convicted of trafficking a woman to neighboring India about four years ago.

As part of the court's special judgment execution program, a team of CIB team arrested Debaki Giri, 31, of Khanigaun -6 of Dhading district, who had been on the run since the Appellate Court of Patan convicted her on March 13 of 2012. The court had sentenced her to four years in prison.

Giri was arrested from Samakhushi and sent to the Central Jail in Sundhara after she was presented before the District Court Kathmandu.

According to the CIB, the woman had taken the Nepali girl to India and sold her for money. CIB Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Dibesh Lohani said that Giri and few other men had persuaded the girl to board a bus on the pretext of dropping her home. But they intoxicated her and then took her to Calcutta in a state of unconsciousness.

The girl later found out that she was sold to Calcutta-based a brothel for Indian rupees 90,000. However, the girl managed to escape from the brothel after 25 days. After she saved enough money working at a chocolate factory, she managed to return home.

After returning home in 2011, the girl filed a case against the perpetrators at the Appellate Court Patan on August 14 of the year.
