KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Nepali Congress (NC) outgoing President Sher Bahadur Deuba has left for Singapore. According to a source close to him, he departed at 11:45 PM on Wednesday on a flight operated by Singapore Airlines.
Deuba flew to Singapore with only a week remaining before the House of Representatives (HoR) election. An NC official from Sudurpaschim Province said that he traveled for medical treatment after experiencing high blood pressure.

After losing the party presidency at the special general convention and failing to secure official recognition from the Election Commission (EC), as well as an interim order from the Supreme Court, Deuba was reportedly disappointed.
As the election approaches, there has been growing interest in Deuba’s physical presence—or at least a public statement from him. This interest is not limited to his home district of Dadeldhura but extends across all nine districts of Sudurpaschim. However, according to leaders close to him in the region, there was no schedule as of Thursday morning for Deuba to visit Sudurpaschim.
In the 2022 election, the NC won eight out of 16 constituencies across the nine districts of Sudurpaschim, while other parties secured the remaining eight seats. On that basis, Sudurpaschim is considered a stronghold of the NC.
However, with Deuba remaining silent or absent from the public scene this time, grassroots voters and party supporters in the region appear uncertain. Local leaders are trying to reassure them, while NC candidates are seeking votes in Deuba’s name.
