Woman held captive in UP freed after 3 months

DHARAN, March 18: A 21-year-old woman who was held captive in Lucknow, India for 3 months has finally been freed. One of the Indian traffickers touched by the plight of Sita Darjee of Dharan-18 was provided with IRs 1000 and a train ticket to return home.

 

“The trafficker was not willing to let me go saying he had paid Rs 50,000 to the trafficker who took me to him,” said the mother of two. [break]“But he set me free when I told him that my mother and relatives were arrested allegedly for selling me off,” she added.



Yam Pariyar, Indramaya Darjee and Tika Limbu, Sita had set for Bahrain on December 9. However, she ended up in Lucknow where she was held captive.



According to her, 17 other Nepali women are still held captive in the same building where she was kept.



“Seventeen other women are still held captive by the traffickers in Lucknow. They provide food and other basic facilities. However, no one is allowed to walk outside the building.”



On the basis of a phone call made by Sita to her husband Ramesh, police had tracked three persons, including Sita´s mother Sarita, on suspicion of trafficking her.



Ramesh had filed a case against the suspects. However, while the case is still sub judice, Sita has claimed that her mother and relatives are innocent. “My mother and relatives not involved in sending me to Lucknow,” she said.
