KATHMANDU, Feb 25: A woman of Dhamaltar-11, Tokha municipality, Kathmandu, has been arrested by the police for her alleged involvement in the murder of her own father following a dispute over money.

Sangita Pandey, 20, who was married to Santosh Pandey, 20, of Nuwakot against the wishes of her family, hatched a plan to kill her own father Maila Maharjan, 43, after he failed to provide her with money she had asked for opening a beauty parlor.

Maharjan's body was found near Sanglekhola of Tokha on Wednesday with what appeared to be wounds inflicted by sharp weapons.

Following the discovery of Maharjan's body, a squad from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Teku intensified its investigation into the case and found that his daughter herself masterminded the killing.

“It was very hard to believe at first that the murder was masterminded by a family member of the victim, but all evidences pointed at Maharjan's daughter,” SP Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson of the division said.

The police was able to identify the suspects based on telephone calls records.

According to the police investigation, Sangita had made up her mind to kill her father, mother and her brother after she did not get the money promised by her parents to start a beauty parlor despite her repeated requests.

According to the police, Sangita had even stolen the property ownership document from her parents for seeking loan by pledging it as collateral. After she could not get any loan, she decided to kill the whole family with the support of her husband and their friends.

She deputed her friend Bikram Tamang, 19, of Dhading and Santosh gathered other boys to execute the plan.

They failed in their first attempt, as her father could save himself with the support of his friend who was accompanying him at the time, the police said.

But she succeeded in her second attempt by calling her father near Sanglekhola on the pretext of meeting some people about renting the house.

As soon as Maharjan reached the spot at around 6:30 pm, the attackers charged him with sharp knife, hammer and khukuri, killing him on the spot.

The other involved in the murder have been identified as Surya Rana Magar of Makwanpur, Dhan Kumar Tamang of Bhojpur, Hari Tamang of Kavre and Santosh Thapa Magar of Dhading, all of whom are 19.

They arrested have confessed their involvement in the alleged murder, the police said.

The police arrested all of them from Tokha on Monday and sent to Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Maharajgunj for further investigation.
