Spiny Babbler of Chakupat in Patan is organizing a winter camp program for 4 to 16 year old from December 25 to January 25. There are forty seats available where 25 seats are already set for interested Spiny Babbler members who can book for their wards.[break]
Pallav Ranjan, Director of Spiny Babbler, said, “We’re organizing this camp to let the students know that there’s so much that life has to offer. Besides than just staying at home and watching television, they will get the idea that outdoor activities and interaction with different other students can be so much fun.”
He further added that there are seven main volunteers for the camp activities who will be guided by the staffs of the Spiny Babbler. There will be one volunteer each for every four students who will be catering to the needs of the participants.
“The participants will be visiting a lot of places of cultural importance, and each day they will be focusing on a specific activity,” Ranjan added and informed that on the first day of the camp, the participants will be visiting Khokana where they will be visiting the age-old community and do some farm-related work there.
There will also be overnight camping called the “Kiranti Camp” where the children will experience archery, foraging and know about Kiranti culture and go back to the old days when food had to be foraged and hunted for.
Jamuna Devkota, Education Assistant of Spiny Babbler, said, “The main reason behind organizing this camp is to let students get a lot of exposure while indulging in various activities. There will a lot of outdoor activities, like camping, sports, site visits and various adventures.”
There will also be Urban Camp for one-nighters at Spiny Babbler and also at Tilaurakot near Lumbini for 4 nights and 5 days. Other adventures will include stamina work in winter sun, different sport activities and other outdoor games.
There is going to be a whole lot of adventures, full of thrills that will definitely give the participants an adrenaline rush, like cycling, hiking and climbing, to name a few.

The participants will get to visit the ethnographic museum, the SAARC Association of Home Based Crafts Women and understand 10,000 years of arts and crafts history of South Asia. They will also visit the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal (ACORAB), where they can learn how 167 stations in remote Nepal get daily news and program feeds from satellite. Another site visit will be at the Bagmati settlements for understanding lifestyles in the slums.
Other events will be making paintings and cartoons where the students will also get to meet one of the most significant artists and writers of Nepal at Spiny Babbler. They will also get to meet a flute teacher from the US and interact with the most famous flutists and sports personalities of Nepal.
Other activities will include making sculptures, learning about modern art concepts, and cooking where the participants will get to flaunt their culinary skills. Following that will be dance parties, fashion play, and a hard dance like b-boying, acrobatics or martial arts extremes.
Junu Shrestha, one of the volunteers at Spiny Babbler who is also helping out with the camp activities, shared, “During winter holidays, students usually get bored if they aren’t involved in any activity. So this winter camp will undoubtedly give them a great learning experience along with various new fun-filled outdoor activities.”
For the Spiny Babbler members, the cost for the one-month camp is Rs 7,500 and for non-members, the cost is Rs 15,000. For those who cannot attend the whole one-month camp, the minimum enrollment should be for 10 days with Rs 1,000 charged per day. The adventures will continue for the whole month for five days a week from 10 am to 4 pm except for Mondays and Fridays.

Christmas Kids Carnival at Soaltee
With Christmas approaching, Soaltee Crowne Plaza at Tahachal is organizing Christmas Kids Carnival on December 18 from 10 am to 4 pm.
The program includes food stalls, games stalls and many other fun-filled outdoor activities based on the Christmas theme.
Sony Chaudhary, Assistant Manager of Marketing and Public Relations of the luxury property, said, “Keeping the tradition of the kids carnival which takes place every year, the carnival has been organized basically to escalate the Christmas mood among the children. We hardly have platforms where kids and parents can come on the same ground, interact with other children and enjoy with various activities; so this whole day event will definitely be something fun for the kids.”
“This year, the event is held with more activities with around 20 games, like bingo, basketball, spoon race and tug of war, to name a few,” said Anju Chettri, Guest Relations Executive at the hotel.
She further added that the winners of the games will also be handed over with small gift hampers. Besides the games stalls, there will also be various delicacies available at the food stalls, music and dance and also pony ride and horse ride.
“The main attraction, however, will be Santa Claus who will be distributing various goodies to the children,” informed Chettri.
The cost for the program is Rs 600 each for children and Rs 800 each for adults, which includes welcome drinks, one complimentary snack and five game coupons.
