Wildfire breaks out in Gorakhnath Community Forest in Kavre

KAVREPALANCHOK, March 18 : A wildfire has been raging in Gorakhnath Community Forest, Bethanchok Rural Municipality-3, Kavre, since late Sunday night. Authorities and locals have been working since early Monday morning to contain the fire, which started around 11:00 PM.


Ward Chair Kuber Dhakal of Bethanchok-3 stated that the fire is about a kilometer away from human settlements. He warned that if it spreads further left, residential areas could be at risk. The wildfire also threatens a drinking water project in Thalidanda and Harkabhanyang.

Police, local representatives, forest user committee officials, and residents are engaged in fire control efforts. No human or livestock casualties have been reported so far, according to Dhakal.


Earlier in January, a wildfire in Mahabharat Jungle, Khani Khola Rural Municipality-1, took four days to be controlled with helicopter assistance after spreading across multiple wards.
