The fever has affected a majority of the students of Rastriya Bal Shiksha Sadan, Namuna Boarding School, Adarsha English Boarding School, Narayan Higher Secondary School, and Shivalaya Higher Secondary School in Kushma. District Public Health Office (DPHO) says soldiers at the Naya Bhairavi Dal Barrack have also been laid low by the fever.
"We have closed our school since Friday as most of the students have been affected. They are suffering from high fever, headache and nausea," principal of Kaligandaki Boarding School Basanta Kumar Karmacharya said. Health workers from DPHO are treating the students and soldiers.
Meanwhile, a joint team of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Epidemiology and Disease Control Division of the Health Ministry has reached Parvat to take stock of the situation.
The team led by Dr Ashok Chhetri met the affected students and soldiers. It also collected blood samples from them and sent them to the Central Laboratory in Teku, Kathmandu, for tests.
Chief of the Parvat District Hospital Jhalak Gautam urged everyone to remain alert about the infectious disease and hoped that results from lab tests will help in effective treatment of the disease.
