RAJBIRAJ, Sept 20: The locals of Padariya village in Wada-2 of Rajbiraj Municipality have been living in dark since last Saturday. The electricity blackout was caused by an explosion of transformer due to heavy rainfall and storm.

“Right after the transformer exploded we contacted the authority for immediate support but no one has come to repair the transformer until now,” said Numbatti. “We are suffering because of their lethargic attitude,” he complained. Around 200 families of the village have been affected after the explosion of the 100 kV transformer.

Meanwhile, the locals of Chanaura Tol in Wada-2 of Rajbiraj municipality are dealing with similar problem. The residents of the neighborhood have been left to manage without electricity after a 50 kV transformer that supplied electricity to their homes exploded two weeks ago.

According to Nepal Electricty Authority Rajbiraj Distribution Centre (NEA), there have been more cases of transformer explosion in the district. The authority shared that in the last two weeks more than 6 transformers were reportedly damaged due to explosion, affecting thousands of people.

According to Engineer Badrinath Chaudhary, 50 kV transformers in Jamuwakatti, Kupahima, Kusaha, Lohajar and 6 more transformers have become dysfunctional.

“How can we replace damaged transformers if we don´t have new ones?” said Shambhu Kusyait, chief of NEA Rajbiraj Distribution Center. “It might take more than fifteen days to fix the problem.”
