KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Veteran lyricist and writer Prem Vinod Shrestha, popularly known as “Nandan,” has passed away. He died at the age of 90 on Sunday night at 9:25 PM.
Nandan, who also served as former chairman and advisor of Narayani Kala Mandir, will have his mortal remains placed at the Narayani Kala Mandir for the final tribute. According to former chairman Sahanlal Pradhan, Nandan had been suffering from cancer. He passed away while undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College.

Nandan contributed to various literary genres. Several of his songs were composed by musicians such as Natikaji and he also penned lyrics for numerous films. According to artist Riddhi Charan Shrestha, Nandan was the pioneer of ghazal and dohori (folk duet) music in Chitwan. His published song collections include Jhatkaro, Anjali, Sapani Bata Biujhera, Bipin Ka Pailaharu, and Aina Bhitra Ko Aakash.
Born in Bandipur, Tanahun, Nandan engaged in business for some time in Arughat, Gorkha. In 2019 BS, he moved to Narayangadh Bazaar, where he remained active in drama performance and writing at Narayani Kala Mandir. He received numerous honors, including the Chhinnalata Award. He is survived by his wife, three sonsand three daughters.
