Late Karmacharya´s brother Laxman Karmacharya and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal jointly lit the funeral pyre. Karmacharya died of cancer at 5:03 am today. He was undergoing treatment at the Kathmandu Model Hospital since the past few days. He was 89 years old. He was the patron of UCPN (Maoist) party. [break]
CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidhya, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, CPN-ML General Secretary CP Mainali, UCPN (Maoist) leaders Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Giriraj Mani Pokharel, Agni Sapkota among others paid their final tributes to late Karmacharya by offering flowers and garlands to his mortal remains.
Also present at the aryaghat to pay their last respects to the late communist leader were a significant number of leaders and cadres of various political parties, relatives and well-wishers.
Earlier, the body of Karmacharya was kept at the UCPN (Maoist) central office from 7:30 to 11:00 am and at the open theatre from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm for those wishing to pay their final tributes to the late leader.
Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam and other leaders had reached the Maoist central office at paris danda this morning to offer their final tributes to late Karmacharya.
Likewise, Chairman of the Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel, Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel, CPN-Maoist Chairman Baidhya, General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa and Secretary Netra Bikram Chand paid their last respects to late Karmacharya at the open theatre in the afternoon.
