KATHMANDU, March 12:  Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has urged the younger generation not to be misled and to rely on data.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, he encouraged them to verify facts instead of believing claims that Nepal was once a paradise and thrived on rice exports.

"I urge young friends who believe in data, when someone says Nepal used to export rice, check the statistics. When someone claims Nepal was once a paradise, verify the data," Thapa said.

He emphasized that the progress made in the past 30 years was a result of democracy. "Whatever has been achieved in the last three decades is due to the freedom of choice," he said, "It wasn't just the government, but all citizens who contributed. The freedom to choose played a key role in this progress."

Thapa also stressed the need to address the dissatisfaction expressed by young people protesting on the streets. He said he has been actively listening to their grievances through discussions and podcasts and insisted that it is the government's responsibility to respond to their concerns.

"We must address the dissatisfaction and anger of the youth protesting on the streets," he said, "I have been listening to their podcasts and engaging in discussions. Their frustration must be acknowledged."

Encouraging open debates and expression of discontent, Thapa urged youth to refrain from spreading hatred. "Let’s debate and express dissatisfaction, but let’s not spread hatred against individuals," he said, "I have nothing to say to those who are ideologically committed to their stance. But the grievances of discontented youth must be addressed, and they should be connected to the country’s future."

He also expressed his commitment to collaborating with anyone standing against conspiracies targeting the current constitution and system.
