PANCHTHAR, June 15: Vehicular movement along the Fidim–Taplejung stretch of the Mechi Highway has been completely halted since Saturday evening after a modular bridge under construction over the Hewakhola River collapsed.
A temporary diversion had been constructed beneath the bridge to allow traffic to pass. However, the collapse of the bridge blocked the road, rendering the route impassable.

Rain has been falling in the Fidim area since early Sunday morning. Panchthar Police Chief Kaushal Budhathoki said efforts are underway to clear the road. “We are starting work from 8 a.m.,” he said. “We will first assess the ground situation and then, if feasible, begin work using a fly-line.”
With the road blocked, vehicles travelling from Jhapa toward Taplejung via Fidim can only reach up to Hewakhola. The same restriction applies to vehicles coming from the Taplejung side
