KATHMANDU, Sept 4: The United States has provided the Nepal Army with two M28 Sky Trucks, an air ambulance and a standard Sky Truck, as a full grant as a part of its foreign assistance program.
The handover took place on Thursday at the Mid-Air Base in Gauchar, with Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba and Defense Minister Manbir Rai in attendance. The US Ambassador to Nepal Dean R. Thompson formally handed over the aircraft to Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel.
US to provide helicopters and sky trucks to Nepali Army
The Sky Trucks will be used for military purposes, disaster management and various emergency rescue operations. In her address, Foreign Minister Deuba expressed gratitude to the US government for enhancing the Nepal Army’s capacity in disaster response and humanitarian assistance.
Ambassador Thompson highlighted that the delivery of the Sky Trucks strengthens the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and announced plans to provide an additional two Bell helicopters in the near future. The event was also attended by senior officials from the US Foreign Military Financing program, Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense and military attachés from the US Embassy.
