KATHMANDU, Nov 11:  UNICEF’s Climate Cinema: Children on the Frontlines of Climate Action campaign concluded in Kathmandu on Monday, emphasizing that children must be central to climate solutions, UNICEF said in a press release.

UNICEF in a statement said that the two-week campaign, which travelled through Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini and Madhesh provinces, provided a platform for children and young people to share their lived experiences of climate change through storytelling and film. The initiative culminated with a celebration of young climate champions’ creativity and leadership in the capital.

At the closing event, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr Madan Prasad Pariyar, who will lead Nepal’s delegation to COP30, received a special report capturing children’s voices and recommendations, along with the National Youth Statement developed by over 500 young participants during the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Nepal 2025.

“The Government of Nepal is committed to integrating child-centered climate action across all sectors,” the press release quoted Dr Pariyar as saying, “Our Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0 is among the world’s most child- and youth-friendly climate plans. We will take these voices to COP30 to ensure they inform global dialogue.”

The press release further stated that UNICEF Representative Alice Akunga said the campaign spotlighted how climate change disrupts children’s education and wellbeing, calling it a “child rights crisis.” She reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to strengthen climate-resilient services and promote climate education across Nepal.

Through screenings, local actions, and dialogues, the campaign amplified children’s determination to protect their communities. “Children are not just victims of climate change — we have ideas and solutions,” said 15-year-old Jayanti Bam from Kalikot, president of her school’s eco club.

Supported by federal, provincial and local governments, schools and youth networks, UNICEF’s Climate Cinema reflects a growing movement to ensure that children’s stories shape both national and global climate policies — from classrooms to COP30, the press release said.
